Style & Vision

The artist must train not only his eye, but also his soul.
— Wassily Kandinsky

I like to add my own interpretation when capturing the essence of subjects. I paint in an expressive, rather than photorealistic style. It is my belief that an artist’s brush should speak through the subject, rather than the subject demanding of the artist to follow a set of rules, such as making an exact copy of a photograph.

Even though I create realistic detail in my pet eye series, the area around the eye is often less defined and executed in a more painterly manner. I also take artistic license when it comes to colour. My colour schemes are often a result of capturing a certain mood, or I may perceive a colour aura in the subject that fascinates me.

It is my personal opinion, that artistic skill is not measured on how well one can copy a photograph, but by the creative process and unique mode of expression!

If you are looking for an artist to provide you with an element of surprise, I’m the right person for you.
